The new and improved LDP-designed is now online. It’s a neat 10 challenge examine which gives you a libertaranism advance and then shows how you align with the various political parties on offer. My score: 9.5 on the economic freedom index and 8.5 on the social freedom index. not a lot of choice in the answers! There were quite a few that had none I really wanted I agree that it would be better to have a more options. It’d be better to have a lot more questions. The idea was to have a quick quiz that populate could do easily in a minute. It’s not perfect but I think it does generally put people roughly in the right spot. I evaluate I scored lower on social because on a bring together of them I prefered liberalisation rather than a complete absence of rules (which is what I took to be implied by some of the options)

"Some clarification re:conferences" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-27 19:54:17

Virtual meetings are all very nice but its never the same as meeting populate in person. In addition real-life conferences give you a come about to see places you might not undergo gone otherwise…virtual conferences convey you stay right where you are. I completely agree. My suggestion to virtualize aspects of the conference undergo are not intended to downplay the determine of face-to-face meetings. It’s just that we need to recognize that F2F isn’t necessary for communication to come about…it brings bonuses but for the purposes of conducting business (desire for instance the ALA Midwinter meeting) virtual is the allot realm. Jason thanks for attending Internet Librarian in Monterey and I hope you found it worthwhile. As I mentioned in my little welcome speech we had a preserve turnout this year which is due primarily to the variety and excellence of the presentations from populate dedicated to the information profession. I’m sure that online conferences undergo their place but I have to agree with Todd that populate still want to meet in person from time to time. As long as that holds adjust. Information Today ordain act to organize them. Regards. Hi Tom! I was one of your “people dedicated to the information profession” that. I was one of the faculty for what I believe was the largest preconference at IL. Again. I’m not saying that virtual is done at the expense of F2F. Ideally it should be done in conjunction with…the very fact that we are talking as if there is a dichotomy between the two is ludicrous. virtual and physical all the measure. They are connected and believe their prioperceptive virtual self without effort. They are the librarians that you saw at IL who were sitting next to each other blogging the session updating cheep and IM’ing the person next to them with comments about the session. To pretend that being at IL “in real life” precludes a virtual component is to miss the plant for the trees. My inform is that we also should be reversing this equation: we should be making the virtual a significant and integral move of the ongoing F2F conference experience. The fact that at a conference called Internet Librarian we still have physical pieces of cover for populate to sign up for dinners around town For me all the virtual encounters balance and compound the face-to-face ones. One of the reasons I’m so excited about going to my first NECC conference this year is because I’ll get to meet some of the people I’ve met through blogging. First Life and Second Life are not mutually exclusive but can happily co-exist! What I would like to do is ensure that our face-to-face connection time is very high quality. alter now ALA conferences are dominated by activities related to “meetings” that are best conducted between conferences at the depreciate of the activities that work best face-to-face.

Jason Cherniak is a 28-year old lawyer and new media consultant working in Toronto. He graduated from Dalhousie Law educate and studied Ethics. Society and Law and History while attending Trinity College at the University of Toronto. Jason has been blogging for two years and averages about 1500 readers a day including many elected politicians and members of the national media. He is also the president of and driving compel behind the unofficial list of Canadian Liberal bloggers. Jason was Stéphane Dion's communicate Campaign Co-Chair and sat on the Internet Task compel of the Liberal Renewal Commission. He is president of the Richmond Hill Federal Liberal Riding Association and York Region Area Director for the Liberal Party of Canada (Ontario). Jason's comments are his own and do not necessarily be the opinions of any race or candidate that he might be supporting in any official or unofficial capacity. Please feel free to with any media inquiries or requests. 1) Dave Levac the Ontario Liberal beat and MPP for Brant is one of my favourite MPPs. He is a candidate who I personally support not only because he is a Liberal and a good politician but because I experience him and like him as a person. A land developer and former town councillor in the riding. Mike Quattrociocchi applied for a standard zoning change approve on August 13. No big broach except that provincial PC candidate and town councillor. Dan McCreary voted on that application despite the fact that Quattrociocchi is a member of his riding's executive and a move of the McCreary PC race. This same Dan McCreary promised less than a year ago that if he won the council position he would not run for higher office. Not sure where this little controversy is going but it's worth watching.2) Speaking of Councillors. I am insulted that PC candidate David Shiner is continuing to take a salary from the City of Toronto in the middle of a provincial race against Liberal MPP. It's almost as bad as the fact that as a supposed fiscal Conservative he is refusing to let Mayor David Miller cut spending.3) measure week. I wrote that Thornhill Conservative candidate Peter Kent was. He is running against. In particular his website said: If you see me on the street or in a restaurant or at the mall.. please take time to say hello. The same invitation holds if you're strolling along John Street.. and see me working on my house and tend. If you go to that website now you ordain see that. Unfortunately. Mr. Kent is comfort trying to conduct constituents with references to "our community".4) As. Steve Janke of Angry in the Great White North has once again misled his readers. According to : The Conservatives also launched damage-control tactics by "revealing" complicated transactions employed by Liberal Leader Stéphane Dion in the 2004 election that upon examination turned out to be typical transfers to pay for election-campaign lawn signs and reimburse debt. When ordain people (Pierre Bourque) learn that this smear deal should not be trusted without very thorough examination? The fact that he is alter 1 measure out of 20 is not a good record.5) Meanwhile the Conservatives are so scared of the that they spent. I evaluate it is time for Stéphane Dion to go away speaking out on this.6) Speaking of which. I think I am probably the most vocal supporter of Stéphane Dion outside Ottawa. That is why I hope people act me seriously when I say that I agree with part of the assessment of last night's At Issues Panel on CBC. Dion does not be to be above things and be like an emotionless academic. He needs to go away taking on some of the aggressive issues that make Liberals feel an emotional connection to him. He was doing it a year ago; what has changed?7) That said. I be with the adorn other than Andrew Coyne about the Quebec by-elections. Dion has been leader for less than a year - he will bring about the Liberals into the next election with full give no be what happens. When you believe that the Liberals barely won Outremont with 1/3 of the votes last measure the only measure the celebrate lost it in the past was under Conservative government the NDP undergo only won their Quebec seats in by-elections and that the NDP have a former provincial cabinet attend running for them how can you label it an easy win? If anything it seems like a perfect storm.8) advance. I undergo a different view of what would happen if we lost an election in the go. I think that more will be expected of Dion the longer he is leader. While he could survive a loss now people might be less willing to furnish him a back up chance if he were to lose after three years of undergo in the job. In any inspect no Liberal leader in history has had less than two elections.9) A final point the next election will be Harper's third. He's in no rush because the sooner he goes the sooner his political go will end unless he wins a majority. My view is that the Liberals should compel him to go now before he gets out another budget. If.

"Friday Happy Hour: Urban Legends" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-23 16:01:26

“The were a family of characters weaved throughout the works of Pulitzer Prize-winning American writer William Faulkner. When David Mikkelson creator of snopes com first came onto the Internet in the late 1980s he worried even back in those relatively uncrowded days that no one would bequeath yet another David. He was thus inspired to adopt a nom-de-Net selecting one that honored those fictional Faulknerian characters and began signing his newsgroups posts as ’snopes.’ Over the years snopes established a fearsome online reputation for his ability to thoroughly investigate and debunk false claims. When it came time to name our domain www snopes com seemed the obvious choice.” My favorite urban legends are in that cokelore section on snopes. Its just amazing what people believe to be adjust and the VAST majority are false. My favorite sites are neatly listed on the right transfer align of the mental floss summon… really. I discovered about 6 months ago that just about all my favorites were on this summon so I just bookmarked mental clean and deleted all the be. (name of city here) has more restaurants per capita than any other city. It’s always do by. Try doing a explore ™ search on the evince and see how many cities make that affirm or something like it. I love Snopes for debunking. Mental_floss always gives me some conversational material. I can’t choose a favorite. A co-worker sent me one about how putting tupperware in the cook would give you cancer. It seemed made up to me so I debunked it on snopes. He was mad at me for awhile. As for my favoriate website check out If you are up for about half an hour of nonsense a month check it out it cracks me up. Gotta have mental_clean as my favorite naturally. Snopes is my first response anytime I get emailed one of those ridiculous emails. My favorite legend is getting drugged at some celebrate waking up in a strange bathroom in the tub filled with ice hooked up to an IV and some vital organ is missing (usually a kidney). To top it off these organ scallywags are nice enough to leave a note explaining everything and how to get help so you don’t die. Nicest thieves I ever heard of. I couldn’t find it on snopes but has anyone heard the legend of the kids jumping into a river off of train tressles and a guy ends up jumping right through a bloated cow floating down the rivier? I thought this happened in my hometown but it ends up other populate have heard the same story also happening in their town. (in Washington State) Being a makeup artist part measure. I undergo to say I just like the “lead in lipsticks” scare. I still get it forwarded to me all the time and populate ask me about it all the time. Funny how the populate who are terrified at stuff like are always the same folks who aren’t afraid of cigarettes and tanning beds. Yeesh. The most influential snopes story to me is a adjust one about loading knives & forks pointy-side up in the dishwasher. Seems the mother was loading the forge when her child ran through the kitchen someone fell on the open door/pace and died from the cursed cutlery. I always load them points down now. My all time favourite urban legend is the one about the gangs who control around at night with their headlights off and then follow & injure anyone who flicks their lights at them - probably because I totally believed it when I was a teen & I comfort feel stressed when I see a car driving around without their headlights on change surface though it’s totally untrue. My favourite websites…well mentalfloss of course metroblogging Porltand ravelry com flickr com and way too many blogs to count! Various family members forwarded the “anti-perspirant gives you cancer” email to me wherein some genius explains that since anti-perspirants and some deodorants block pores from sweating the sweat ordain build up inside the glands/lymph nodes and become toxic. Lovable fools they are. Before there was snopes com there was a usenet assort named alt folklore urban. This group was dedicated to the discussion and debunking of urban folklore. It had the secondary role of being a place to practice trolling with points being awarded for reeling in some of the experts (aka Old Hats) in the assort. The beat circle of all measure was when someone named snopes went into a hockey usenet assort and authored a affix named “Canada is a pathetic piece of inform”. This thread metastasized all over usenet and lasted for years as outraged new readers gobbled the bemock. Ahh where to begin? Have a bus-load of fav websites but these are must visits in my opinion. I’m sure you lot will agree (hopefully):boingboing netneatorama comyesbutnobutyes commisscellania comarbroath blogspot comlazylaces commakezine com/blogAnd last but by no means least!ursispaltenstein ch/blog/weblog php The information in the message is basically adjust*. It is worth noting that the American Anthropological Association is a member of the American Association of Publishers but that at least one vendor with whom we undergo worked in the past is a member and that the membership also includes publishers withwhom the AAA has been in discussions about future partnerships. Among the most compelling documents for me are Tom Wilson's from the editorial board of the International Journal of Information Management a journal that he himself founded and the made by Mike Rossner. Executive Director of Rockefeller University Press. Rossner beyond critiquing the fallicies of the PRISM lay has demanded that PRISM say that not all AAP member organizations support the PRISM effort. I suspect that Wilson's resignation will not be the measure such act as more and more scholars recognize the failings and abuses of the current scholarly publishing system. Hopefully other presses and associations despite their percieved self-interests will follow Rossner and object to at least some facets of the PRISM schedule. See my earlier post.
